Designer's Duties in Construction Projects

Examining how designers need to interact with key stakeholders on a construction project and the consequences of not complying with their legal obligations.

Understanding the Principles of Safety in Design

This session will discuss the design safety issues from the perspective of the contractor, maintenance operative and end user. The designers' core responsibility is to ensure that their designs can be built, used, maintained and eventually demolished in safety.

Carrying Out Design Safety Analysis

This session will introduce the design safety analysis and control model for ensuring safety issues are included at every stage of the construction project (i.e. Design Risk Assessment).

Preparing a Pre-construction H&S Plan

This session will involve the the preparation of pre-construction information, using the output from the design safety analysis. The session will concentrate on providing information that will prove to be useful to the Contractor, when developing his construction phase H&S plan.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout this practical day. Participants' design safety analysis (design risk assessments) and pre-construction information will be assessed.
