Philip McAleenan
Managing Partner of Expert Ease International

A graduate of Queens University Belfast, Philip holds a Masters degree in social
science and a postgraduate certificate in law. He is a Fellow of the Institute
of Leadership & Management, and a Professional Member of the American Society of
Safety Engineers.
Philip has held senior management positions since 1982 and executive positions
since 1986. His experience of management and training includes personnel,
strategic analysis, business planning, project evaluation and appraisals,
managing change, funding negotiations and contract management. He provides high
level advice and information to a
range of industries including; construction, manufacturing, retail, food and
drink, water, power and chemical.
Managing partner at Expert Ease Safety Consultancy, since its inception in 1996,
Philip co-founded web-safety.com in 1999.

Speaking Engagements/Seminars
Since the foundation of Expert Ease International in 1996 Philip has organised and led seminars on many aspects of OSH, including safety law, principals and practices, confined spaces, managing safety, permits to work and emergency planning. He has given talks and been involved in teaching and training in Ireland, UK and USA. In 1999 Philip and Ciaran jointly presented a session at ASSE in Orlando. In October 2002 Philip led an executive level seminar at the National Safety Congress PDC in San Diego, USA on Operational Analysis and Control. In 2005 and 2008 he presented to the World Congress on OSH, organizing and leading a seminar at the 2008 congress on Korea.
Philip has attended and presented working papers to conferences in
Ireland, UK, Denmark, Mexico, USA, Korea, France and Germany.
He has undertaken study tours and participated in exchange programs to
France and Poland. He contributed to
and participated in seminars and conferences on the NI peace process and the
Moldovan/ Pridnestrovan peace process, the latter attended by Senior Government
Ministers, High Court Judges and Senior Civil Servants from both States.
From the early 1980s to mid 90s Philip was a
visiting speaker to Queen’s University Belfast.
In addition to writing some three dozen safety
publications, he has had a number of papers published over the years on a range
of issues; co-operatives, education, homelessness, aspects of the peace process
(NI). He has reported on and
published conference and public inquiry reports, produced annual reports &
reviews and published community news sheets.
In recent years Philip has conducted community audits, economic
appraisals and business strategies on behalf of a number of
organisations and produced reports and business plans for them. He has frequently
given radio, TV and newspaper interviews.
His work in recent years has majored on permits to work, lockout & tag, confined spaces entry, working at heights and chemical safety.
Present Projects
Philip is currently authoring a number of Chapters for a new Thomas Telford Limited book "ICE Handbook of Health and Safety in Construction"
In September 2009 he is presenting a paper to a session of the Canadian Society of
Safety Engineering, introducing OCMITM.
