Asbestos

If you require this hazard to be controlled using a permit to work download the documentation from the open access section of this website, fill in and issue to workers.

Consider the material being worked on, its composition and condition, also the work that will be carried out on it, e.g. cutting and drilling will present hazards that painting will not.

Consider the effect of control measures that have been or will be taken to prevent or reduce exposure.

Consider the results of monitoring of exposure (Will any employee’s cumulative exposure exceed action levels set by regulation)?

Consider the results of relevant medical surveillance.

Maintain a register of location, type & condition of asbestos.

Medical and air monitoring records are to be kept for a minimum period of 40 years.

Any control measures taken to prevent or reduce the exposure to asbestos may have an effect on other aspects of the work operation, e.g. prohibition on use of abrasive tools on asbestos containing surfaces will require alterations to preparation prior to painting.
