Battery
Batteries have been abused or that are used in a manner that they were not intended to be used have the potential to explode, cause a fire or release toxic fume.
Battery powered tools will spark when switched on or off. In confined spaces such tools must be intrinsically safe, i.e. without the potential for the spark to leave the casing and contact the external atmosphere.
Batteries utilise chemical reactions to generate power. When disposing of batteries, be aware of this and dispose of them in accordance with current waste regulations.
Do not break open battery casings. The contents may be toxic and capable of causing damage to clothing and skin.
Batteries can rupture if heated, e.g. throwing in a fire, soldering items to it, inserting with the poles reversed.
Re-charge batteries only if they are designed to be recharged. Do not re-charge damaged batteries. Do not recharge batteries on incorrect or unknown chargers.
