Electrostatic

Static charges build up when two materials rub together.  Depending where they are on the electrostatic series, one, the higher in the series, will gain a positive charge, the other a negative charge.

When there is a sufficient build up of charge it can be discharged causing either a shock to the individual, or a spark that has the potential to cause an explosion or ignite a fire.

Reducing the rate of a manufacturing process may reduce the amount of static charge building up.

Synthetic work clothes are prone to build-up of electrostatic charges.  In potentially explosive atmospheres, not charging fabrics should be used.

Remember making the atmosphere in a workspace inert will introduce a confined spaces hazard into the work operation.
