Falling Objects
Materials falling from heights can cause serious injury and death. All areas beneath high work should therefore be designated hazardous and access prohibited.
Put in place technical and organisational safeguards that prevent falls or falling objects causing harm, e.g. fixed and clearly identified walkways, barriers to prevent access to fragile surfaces and edges, netting to catch materials, and hoarding to prevent pedestrian access below work, enclosed mechanical means of delivering equipment, materials etc. to high places.
Safety nets may be used to catch falling materials, and waste chutes where substantial amounts of debris is to be removed. Work platforms and barriers should be fitted with toe boards.
Workers in those areas should be provided with and wear relevant PPE, e.g. hard hats, goggles and overalls.Plant and equipment to be removed or secured could include gravity doors and lids.
