These controls measures are dealing primarily with small items of plant, containing radioactive sources.

Local rules should contain the key arrangements for restricting exposure in particular areas, including;

• Maximum dose levels, 
• Dose investigation levels and monitoring arrangements, 
• Contingency and emergency arrangements, 
• Names of competent and authorised/ appointed persons, 
• Limitations of work area, Examination, maintenance and testing arrangements,
• Safe work instructions, 
• the records to be kept, and
• certifications
